 Neighborhood Night

 Poetry at Large Featuring Louis Clark & Ed Risden
Thursday, March 19, 2020. 5:30pm - 7:00pm. In Rebel Poet: More Stories from a 21st Century Indian, author Louis Clark examines the effects of his mother's alcoholism and his young sister's death, and offers an intimate recounting of the backlash he faced as an Indian on the job. Dr. Edward Risden, professor of English, has taught at St. Norbert College since 1990.He has published eighteen books including literary criticism, fiction and poetry, with new volumes forthcoming on Tolkien in the twentieth-century intellectual landscape. free.  L'Affichomania: The Passion for French Posters
Saturday, March 7, 2020 through Sunday, May 31, 2020. Be transported for a sense of Paris this springtime through the remarkable work of five master printmakers - Jules Cheret, Alphonse Mucha, Eugene Grasset, Theophile Alexandre Steinlen, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - which conveys the exuberance of the spirited Belle epoque era. During an artistic proliferation from 1875 to 1910, these pioneering artists reigned in Paris and defined a never-before-seen, and never forgotten, art form. Always free admission. Free. Children's book illustrations by Melissa Sweet, created in her signature watercolor and found-object collage style, comprise this exhibition of her acclaimed biographical work. Sweet, based in Portland, Maine, has illustrated more than 100 books, created toys, puzzles, and games for eeBoo, and her work has been recognized with multiple awards. Always free admission. Free.  It's Like Poetry: Building A Toshiko Takaezu Archive at RAM
Friday, August 2, 2019 through Sunday, July 26, 2020. While unassuming in her disposition, artist Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011) was a bona fide ceramic superstar who pushed the boundaries of clay in the late twentieth century. Inspired by nature and the environment, Takaezu created work that embodied a poetic balance between art and life. This exhibition in Racine Art Museum's Windows on Fifth Gallery features a selection from the more than 30 Takaezu works now in the museum's collection. Arranged as a series of artist solo showcases, Open Storage also highlights the earliest kinds of work given to RAM-textiles and works on paper. Representative Hesselbein is sensitive to the needs of senior citizens. She serves on the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, and is Vice-Chair for the Speaker's Task Force on Alzheimer's and Dementia.  Third Annual Twin Triathlon
Saturday, August 26, 2017 through Tuesday, August 26, 2081. 8 am - 12 pm. 8 am registration; 9 am start; Noon Awards! Fun event is unique in the Northwoods-8K paddle on North Twin Lake, followed by a 16K bike ride, then a 5K run. Individual ($35), a family or a team ($90). Do one leg, or all three! Beautiful route, healthy fun for the whole family! Registration is encouraged; Participants who register after 8/5/2017 are not guaranteed an event t-shirt.
